Prof. Philimon Nyamugure
Attended Mufakose 4 High School from 1988-1991 then Mufakose 1 High School from 1992-1993. Awarded BSc (Hons) in Applied Mathematics 1994-1998, MSc in Operations Research and Statistics (2002) and then Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education in 2013 National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe. Awarded a PhD in Statistics majoring in Operations Research, from the University of Limpopo in SA in 2017. Title of thesis Modification, Development, Application and Computational Experiments of some selected Network, Distribution and Resource allocation Models in Operations Research. Worked as a Trainee Statistical Analyst, Makoholi Research Station, Masvingo, Zimbabwe mid 1996-1997. From 1998-2003 worked as a High School Mathematics teacher. Became a Lecturer at NUST in the Department of Applied Mathematics then Statistics and Operations Research, (NUST), Zimbabwe from 2003 and rose through the ranks to Associate Professor in 2020. Chairperson for the Departments of Applied Mathematics (2009-2013) and Department of Statistics and Operations Research (2013-2019). Became Executive Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science from 2020 to date. A University Senator from 2009 and University Councillor from 2020 up to date. A member of the Executive Committee and Finance Committee of NUST Council. External examiner of several local and International Universities. Peer reviewer of a number of Journals. Awarded Best PhD presenter in the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Faculty of Science and Agriculture UL. Best Senior presenter, Faculty of Applied Sciences, the 2017 Fulbright Research Award for African Scholars. Involved in a number of community engagement programmes including National University of Science and Technology Schools Enrichment Programme (NUSTSEP).
Research Interest
Statistics: Statistical Surveys, Experimental Designs, Data Analysis, Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects, Big Data Analytics.
Operations Research: Network Optimisation, Operations Management Analytics, Analysis of Non Deterministic Polynomial Hard Problems (NDPHP).
